[Ralph the mer-orca was in pretty bad shape, he was swimming as frantically as he could, but his pace was slow and awkward. He's got a harpoon with a broken shaft stuck in his tail and he's bleeding pretty badly.

He had been hungry and found a fishing ship that was slowly pulling in their catch and he had helped himself to a few of their fish. However, the fishermen had seen him and believing him to be a full orca bent on causing them problems, they had shot Ralph with a harpoon.

In his pain and fear, Ralph had dropped the fish and attempted to swim away, but the rope at the end of the stick had kept him from going too far. Thinking quickly, he used his gigantic hands to snap the shaft off and kept swimming down and away from the boat.

Now he was swimming through open waters, hoping that his blood wouldn't attract any sharks or other predators.

Ralph finally came to rest on a rock to try and investigate the sharp object that was hurting him so badly.

As he settled down, he noticed Leatherhead swimming by and froze up. The large alligator reminded him all too much of the sea monsters and sea serpents from the Deep that tried to snack on him when he wasn't careful. With his injury, there was no way he'd be able to escape if the big guy decided to attack.

In Ralph's mind, there was no way Leatherhead would help him out, everybody else didn't care about him, so even if the gator was friendly instead of hostile, he expected him to keep swimming right on by.

Though, he's made quite a lot of ruckus with his awkward wake, blood trail, and the occasional grunt of pain, it'd be hard for Leatherhead to not notice him, even if the large merman was attempting to be as inconspicuous as possible.]

((Let me know if this isn't okay or if you'd rather me write something else up! This popped in my head earlier, so I'm totally willing to do something else.))
