Under the Sea!

The Underwater Meme

Welcome to the ocean! It's a big, wet world out there, so here's your guide to what's all in store for you!

Fauna

There's many different species in the ocean, some you've heard of, some you haven't, here's just a few of the many creatures you can discover:

1. Mer-chimera - These people are half one species and half sea creature. The most common ones are mermaids and mermen, who are half-human and half-fish, however, some of these people have halves such as dolphins, crocodiles, and even squid. There's even rumors of some being half-sea monster or even half-dinosaur! There's no limit to what their ocean-faring half is, be it something real, extinct, or imaginary. (Characters in the meme can be half their appearance and half any other creature they choose, even things like water Pokemon are options, it's all up to you. Also, they can have always been this way or have found themselves suddenly transformed.)

2. Ocean Creatures - There's plenty of fish in the sea! And dolphins. And whales. And sharks. Every sea creature ever recorded (and a few that haven't been!) are found in this ocean.
(Your character can be any type of ocean-going creature, including things from mythology or other canons. They can have always been this way or have been changed into a sea creature.)

3. Land Creatures - Humans and other land-based critters live, work, and play around the ocean, be it on beaches, floating towns, or just taking a swim or scuba diving or even fishing.
(If you don't want to make any changes to your non-ocean character (or want to make an ocean character a land one), you can use this option to experience the sea.)

4. Other - There's always something new being discovered in the ocean, maybe we haven't found it yet, keep us updated on anything new you find out there!

Locales

There's plenty of places out there, here's some favorite spots!

1. The Seat of the Empire - This is the biggest city in the entire ocean! The emperor of the sea built his castle here and a nice city has sprung up around it. They're always welcoming to tourists, though if you cause trouble, you might just find yourself spending a night or two in the Locker, a high-security prison.

2. Towns - If the big city's not your thing, then there's plenty of small towns scattered about the ocean for you to experience.

3. Open Ocean - If you just want to get away from it all, then you'll want to check out the miles and miles of ocean between the towns and cities, there's all sorts of lovely things like the seaweed fields, the trenches, and open waters for you to discover!

4. The Ice Caps - Things are pretty chill in these freezing waters found at opposite ends of the ocean. There's plenty of ice and glaciers, along with some snow-covered land. Only the creatures with the warmest blubber or clothes can really enjoy their time here.

5. The Deep - The Deep is one of the most dangerous parts of the entire ocean, there's several spots around the sea where it's dark and mysterious. Strange and sometimes dangerous creatures live down here and there's sea volcanoes that increase the temperature to sometimes deadly levels. Not only that, but the pressure is greater down here, making it more difficult on ocean-goers. But, there are rewards to exploring this section of the ocean, there's luminescent creatures that are exotically beautiful and some of the old caves around the sea volcanoes have valuable crystals of different shapes and colors.

6. Other - If you've discovered a new place in the ocean, please feel free to write us and tell us all about it and we'll update our guide to let others know about other great spots around the sea!

((I hope everybody has fun with this and if you'd like, you can take or modify this meme, I don't mind!))

[Ralph the mer-orca was in pretty bad shape, he was swimming as frantically as he could, but his pace was slow and awkward. He's got a harpoon with a broken shaft stuck in his tail and he's bleeding pretty badly.

He had been hungry and found a fishing ship that was slowly pulling in their catch and he had helped himself to a few of their fish. However, the fishermen had seen him and believing him to be a full orca bent on causing them problems, they had shot Ralph with a harpoon.

In his pain and fear, Ralph had dropped the fish and attempted to swim away, but the rope at the end of the stick had kept him from going too far. Thinking quickly, he used his gigantic hands to snap the shaft off and kept swimming down and away from the boat.

Now he was swimming through open waters, hoping that his blood wouldn't attract any sharks or other predators.

Ralph finally came to rest on a rock to try and investigate the sharp object that was hurting him so badly.

As he settled down, he noticed Leatherhead swimming by and froze up. The large alligator reminded him all too much of the sea monsters and sea serpents from the Deep that tried to snack on him when he wasn't careful. With his injury, there was no way he'd be able to escape if the big guy decided to attack.

In Ralph's mind, there was no way Leatherhead would help him out, everybody else didn't care about him, so even if the gator was friendly instead of hostile, he expected him to keep swimming right on by.

Though, he's made quite a lot of ruckus with his awkward wake, blood trail, and the occasional grunt of pain, it'd be hard for Leatherhead to not notice him, even if the large merman was attempting to be as inconspicuous as possible.]

((Let me know if this isn't okay or if you'd rather me write something else up! This popped in my head earlier, so I'm totally willing to do something else.))

[The merorca was an odd sight indeed, especially out in these waters. The alligator liked to keep to himself, mixing with strangers did not bode well for the mutant well.

But this one might be different. There was a lot of blood, sending a pang of a memory into his head. Maybe he should have just swam ahead, but there was something about seeing the creature hurt that made him stop.

He's not exactly doing anything right now, just watching from a set distance. He's not exactly sure whether to be wary of the merorca or not.]

[Ralph's got a fearsome temper that's well-known among the other merpeople, but he doesn't fight unless someone's made him angry or attacked him first. He doesn't like hurting other people, but sometimes it happens.

He sees Leatherhead watching him, but when he doesn't do anything after a few moments, Ralph settles down slightly. He's still nervous, but he's got to get this harpoon out of his tail.

Ralph starts tugging at the harpoon, sending more blood swirling through the water as he grunts and growls in pain. Every now and then, he'll glance over at Leatherhead to see if the gator has made any moves. He's in a very vulnerable state right now, so he's even more cautious than usual.]

[He doesn't LOOK like he wants to do anything, at least from what he saw, anyhow. Slowly, reluctantly, the alligator comes closer to the creature. He wasn't in arm's distance, but he was close enough to get a better view of the situation. It was moments later before he spoke.]

...you are hurt.

[No duh, Leatherhead. But the alligator, while lacking knowledge as to how to mend wounds knew that there was something definitely wrong with the merorca.]

[Ralph notices Leatherhead coming closer, but since he's moving slowly, he doesn't panic.

He's surprised when the gator speaks, but that reassures him a little that he's not in trouble. None of the sea serpents ever talked to Ralph when they tried to make a meal out of him.

Ralph pauses in tugging on the harpoon and responds rather bitterly and sarcastically.]

Yeah, and it's my own dumb fault, too.

Tried to take a shortcut and some humans saw me. They didn't take too kindly to me snagging a couple of fish, but I think they didn't realize I wasn't a whale.

Humans...

[He knows how much that sucks, bro. The alligator eyes briefly flicker white before returning back to the creature.]

Humans are careless. They do not think for us.

[His tail sways, looking at the harpoon in thought.]

You should remove it.
wreckofaguy: (This is NOT good.)

[personal profile] wreckofaguy 2013-04-06 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Not much we can do about that, though. I've heard that they've captured others like us in the past and they've never been seen again.

[Ralph nods and his voice is stressed when he speaks, he knows that if he can't get the harpoon out that he'll likely die. Even if he does manage to remove it, he doesn't have a way to stop the bleeding.]

I'm trying, but I think it's got spikes or something, it's stuck.
bigsoftie: (Mikey will protect me)

[personal profile] bigsoftie 2013-04-06 08:21 am (UTC)(link)
I was one of them.

[A hint of anger in his voice. Yep, he does not care for humans very much.]

I am not sure if I can help...
wreckofaguy: (I'm not sure about this...)

[personal profile] wreckofaguy 2013-04-09 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Ralph's eyes widen and he stops pulling on the harpoon.]

Whoa! The humans got you and you managed to escape? I think you've gotta be the first one to do so!
bigsoftie: (bondage isn't as fun as it sounds)

[personal profile] bigsoftie 2013-04-09 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I am?

It was not...pleasant. [He snarls at the thought of them.]
wreckofaguy: (This is NOT good.)

[personal profile] wreckofaguy 2013-04-09 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of anyone escaping before, but, then again, there's a lot of fish in the sea. [Ralph shrugs.]

Yeah, I can imagine not, I've heard that they sometimes lock people up and do horrible things to them!

[He gestures to the harpoon stuck in his tail.] I was afraid that they'd do that to me if they nabbed me. I was lucky and managed to escape with just this to show for it.
